Derrik is the founder of Influential Walls. As an alumni from South Lake Middle School, this project was one close and dear to his heart.
Bridging Eras and Empowering
Youth During a Global Pandemic
South Lake Middle School requested a mural from our Founder, Derrik Diza, who was an alumni student. Derrik identified an opportunity to not only create something beautiful for his alma mater and childhood neighborhood, but also the chance to impact students.
Irvine Unified School District would be the first district to experience our Mural Academy Program. Derrik worked alongside students teaching them how to paint a large-scale mural and educating the students about public art and need for arts within the economy. The students absolutely loved the project and even would comment on videos on social media of the mural.
What an amazing way to bring together South Lake's class of 2008 with the class of 2021.
